HELP! TOO ROSY FROM ROSACEA

QUESTION:
I am 49 and have rosacea (for which I use a topical med as well as taking an antibiotic). I also have some broken capillaries in the nose and cheek area and slightly enlarged pores on my nose. I cannot afford to get the capillaries fixed.

I use ColorScience primer in yellow which helps counteract the red along with Clarins liquid foundation and am not always pleased with results. I have also tried mineral foundations, but they highlight rather than cover the pores in my nose.

What type of foundation would you recommend for me?

ANSWER:
Make up will just camouflage your redness & capillaries. You need to reduce the redness by changing your everyday habits:
1. Use nonfoaming, very light cleansers. You need to protect your skin.
2. Avoid heat, sun, hot food, hot water, prolong hot baths & showers because it causes dilation of the blood vessels, redness, and swelling in very sensitive skin.
3. Use sunscreen with low SPF (high will irritate your skin)everyday to avoid redness.
4. Avoid exfoliation
5. Use products that contain soothing ingredients and will reduce redness & prevent irritation: aloe vera, chamomile and bisabolol are well-known.
Some newer ingredients: steryl glycyrrhetinate and dipotasium glycerrhizinate (both from licorice extract), azulene, green tea and grapeseed extracts.
