At most of the beauty shows you can count on seeing more than your fair share of Moroccan Oils and Brazilian Blowouts, but for the first time in my more than 25 years on the beauty show circuit the "Mane" event was predominantly ruled by the men -Barbering skills to be exact.

Beauty companies have known and tried to tap into the potential male market before one ever existed for many years now and for the first time you could physically see the crest of the male wave coming across the isle of the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. It was about more than beards and beard oil. Platform artists and industry reps were recycling the traditional barbering craft and repackaging it to the new hipster generation that seems to be hungry for new grooming skills.

Platforms also crossed over into females who were seeking out that male edge that one might find proudly sport by Urban Decay Spokesperson Ruby Rose leaving one to ponder if this wave is more of a unisex trend than a male trend.

North American beauty companies have a long way to go in regards to tapping into male market potential. In South Korea, men have have dominated spending on skincare products alone accounting for more than 21% of global sales. Experts cite this trend as a result of the ever popular and growing K-pop (music) and now lifestyle scene.

In the past I usually tried to avoid the long-wear lip colors. They were great in concept, but overall most of them can be very drying and cause some pretty gruesome wear and tear on the lips. I'll find myself endlessly picking and biting at my lips with long-wear lip colors, which is why until now I usually wore the Clinique Red-y to Wear lipstick. The Clinque Red is moisturizing, doesn't feather and most importantly has some good staying power for a lipstick. Sadly Clinique discontinued that color!

Enter L'oreal's Infallible Pro-last color lipstick. I bought it and decided to test it at a recent wedding. Despite the massive amount of food and drinks I consumed that evening it lasted from that night into the following morning. Unfortunately I was unable to add a hot makeout session to that test, but I can attest to the fact that it doesn't feather or transfer unless you eat something oily. The pigment stayed true with high-intensity. That being said it's not advisable to reapply this lipstick without fully removing it. It will get thick and uneven if you do.

The Clinique never gave me any issues and had great staying power, but I was limited in colors that performed as well as Red-y to Wear did. The L'oreal Infallible Pro-last has a good range of colors to play with. For me the number one reason I now personally wear it and can't go
without it is it performs without ripping or drying out my lips. It also doesn't feel like I have a strange coating on my lips. I hate the way that most of these two-step long-lasting lip colors make my lips feel and this one is easy to compare to the feel of a lip stain.

Like all two-step lip color products this one comes with a balm. The second step pro-seal balm keeps the color and your lips moisturized for hours. Make sure you wait a couple of minutes after the lip color (step 1) has dried before applying the balm. (I even like the balm by itself at times while I head out to the gym since I'm already carrying it).

You can keep the application light on the lips like a stain or heavy and vamp (instagram lips). I will warn you the heavier you go on color the more pro-balm is recommended to keep your lips from sticking to each other.

While this may be a drugstore product, I can assure you it will be used by many top makeup artists for major shoots and red carpet events. If I had any qualms about the product it would be there isn't enough
balm in proportion to lip color. L'oreal should sell extra balms should
you still find yourself with a lot of leftover lip color. Overall this product gets five stars from Mary Schook!

JUNE 2016 UPDATE:

While I still stand behind the staying power of the L'oreal Infallible Pro-Last color lipstick I have since found a new love: the Sephora Cream Lip Stains. It's a one-step lipcolor instead of two. I wear color 01 ALWAYS RED and get stopped in the street by everyone because of this color. This formula also does not dry out the lips, but it's not completely non-transferable. It wears more like an ultimate wear lipstick than a permanent lip color. The other down side is Sephora needs a wider range of colors. There's about two in the line that look okay on me. Definitely worth checking out!

Gel polish has been a love/hate relationship. Given that nail polish only lasts a good few days on me, I warmly embraced gel polish when it first came out. It's the removal that kills me when it comes to gel nails. You all know what I'm talking about. Your nails look like a cheese grater grazed against your nail in the removal process. The IBS show in New York city this past week was loaded with nail repair kits and products because of damage we all endure from those darn gel polishes!

BUT a game-changer has entered the room. Greg Salo, president of Young Nails, allowing me to rigorously test Caption polish by Young Nails between myself and a busy flight attendant. Caption is a professional gel polish alternative with LaqQ3 technology (a triple infusion of dual polymer technology, volcanic glass, shellac, and plant-derived plasticizers). All you need to know is that this means rich, pigmented polish that is tougher than polish and cures with air. The line has over 60 stunning colors. The removal results in NO NAIL DAMAGE. In fact, the base coat helps nails to grow.

What's important to understand is that the polish is not Kryptonite. It's supposed to last twice as long as your normal nail polish might wear. I think they say that to keep expectations low because I have already tripled my regular polish wear time with Caption. I might add it takes me a third of the time to apply the base coat, one richly, pigmented color coat and a quick-dry top coat when compared to gel or regular polish applications. If there were 5 stars for this product I'd give it 6! It has certainly exceeded my expectations and I truly believe the gel lines have something to worry about: speed, long-wear, amazing range of colors and no nail damage = Nail industry disrupted.

I will admit the lighter colors don't seem to have the longevity as the the dark colors do. The flight attendant that tested the polish found that the lighter colors chipped easily as did I, yet the dark colors, which seem rich in pigment just lasted way longer than any polish I've tried.

As a side note I wanted to add that Gelish is still my favorite gel line. They have an assortment of rich, nail-friendly colors and IF the technician soaks them the prescribed amount of time then the polish crumples right off without the damage......but that rarely happens does it. I like that you can still buy the Gelish line at Sally Beauty supply.

This season in fashion the 70's are back, bell bottoms and all, which logistically means so are the big bouncy fros.

Many of the products available in this niche market are greasy and not
hydrating making the hair heavy (not luxuriously coiffed and soft like
Design Essentials). Hair is also more prone to breakage because of the
dry hair issue.

Last year I met a hair brand called Design Essentials at the beautypress event held in NYC. They gave me some samples of the twist and set, the curlforming custard and the natural curl enhancing mousse. I feel an obligation to every curly girl to feature Design Essentials and their high performing products after the raves we received from our testers with these products.

The Design Essentials brand seems to have something for every hair type and I'm happy to have the time to recognize them. I feel sometimes that African American and Latina products
don't get enough media play in the beauty industry leaving a growing
beauty population with tresses that need some TLC.

Apparently they just launched a Coconut and Monoi deep moisture collection. I have not personally tried or tested it, but I can tell you that if it's anything like the other products in their line then this will be a savior for many a curly fro!

The video attached to this post is also a compelling demonstration of the performance and results of the new Coconut and Monoi collection.

There are very few mascaras that I like out there. They either burn and irritate my eyes, break my lashes and most of all underwhelm my need for fluffy, bushy lashes that I can only seem to get with false lashes.

I am prone to love lash extensions, but 40% of the consumers out there can't or shouldn't wear them and not everyone can apply lash strips or false lashes. What's a gal to do?

Since I used to be a beauty editor at a magazine the PR companies still send products to my attention. Cherry Blooms specifically grabbed my attention because I know how serious Australians are about their beauty....especially their lashes.

I've tried a few of the competitors on the market, but they would either fleck on my face, didn't last through the day or cause major lash loss because the mascara was so difficult to remove or would cause lash breakage. I used to use the Talika nylon fibers, but they always dropped on my face and I don't seem to have that problem with this brand. I never liked the effect of Fiberwig either or some of the other competitors.

PROS
-First of all there is no mascara that lengthens like Cherry Blooms. If you do get greedy and overuse it the mascara will clump up. That's not my personal esthetic, but it's easily resolved with a lash comb before the mascara sets.
- I like that if I decide not to remove my mascara that it still is soft and buildable the following day (bad habit).
-I like that my eyes don't burn.
-They don't raccoon.
-I don't get flecks under my eyes and it seems to last all day.
-The removal is super easy.
- My lashes don't break like they do with conventional mascaras.
- It doesn't require any special skill to apply...maybe just a little practice.
-What I love most is the lack of irritation without sacrificing performance and the simple ingredients: Water, high-grade potent beeswax, carnauba wax, black iron oxide,
natural cellulose fibers, stearic acid, natural emulsifying agents.

I have to say Cherry Blooms is worth every penny and when this tester runs out I will be making a new purchase. Well done Cherry Blooms.

How Cherry Blooms Mascara Works (as per the manufacturer)

Cherry Blooms Mascara Fiber Eyelash Extensions are lightweight and
just as easy as applying normal mascara. The kit includes two tubes; the
transplanting mascara gel and a tube of dry natural cellulose black
fibers which stick on the beeswax mascara making it look like you are
wearing false eyelashes.
The brush-on fibers are lightweight, adhere to your own lashes and
act like instant lash extensions. It dramatically creates 300% longer
and thicker lashes within seconds. The fibers easily wash off with warm
water and a cotton ball, but can be worn for many days until it is
washed off.
THE STATE OF THE INDUSTRY:

The International Beauty Show (and IECSC) were held at the Javitts March 2014. It was one of the better beauty shows I have seen in New York in a long while. Major beauty player Redken headlined for the first time in years showing technicians how to creatively inspire their customers through color.

Over the last decade the IBS shows had hit a sharp decline and felt more like a flea market featuring carnival side shows than the high fashion/ Avant-garde events I grew up with. I was embarrassed for the industry and sad at the same time. In the past (WAY back) these shows were around to primarily inspire artists and help technicians brush up on their craft. The industry forgot how to inspire and in turn forgot how to sell. It shows in the salons and spas. This is one reason the Groupons of the world have been so successful. Trust me, when a customer finds a great technician/artist they don't let go!
It's the only hair product on the market with actual Botox (Botulism). I was unable to speak with the owners, but from the demo that I saw the product gave silky, straight hair instantly. All of the sudden the news is back to talking about lash extensions and lash damage. What I find interesting is when the media talks about lash extensions they have NO idea what they are talking about.
They confuse temporary lashes with lash extensions. It drives me nuts!

To make matters worse one show did a demonstration of lash extensions with the eyes open. Last I checked lash extensions were doing with eyes closed unless you're one of the crazy people wanting to do the bottoms, which should be illegal.

Take a look at my lash guide below:

Each year Pantone® has an official color that is released that effects industries on a global scale including beauty, fashion, automotive and more.
Last year the official color was Emerald. Glad that color is over. This year it is Radiant Orchid, a color that is friendly to many. It brings nice contrast to green eyes and helps to bring out the brown ones. You can read more about the psychology of the color Radiant Orchid and the history of Pantone colors in their press release HERE. beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-46645972567789775542013-12-18T07:34:00.000-05:002013-12-18T08:49:06.059-05:00THE FUTURE OF FOOD

Some of you may recall the organic journey I did in 2010 where I ate only organic for a year (even processed), quadrupled my calories and in result lost 70+lbs. The assessment at the end of the year was that the chemicals in our food were obviously causing me to gain or hold on to weight.

What caused me to stop eating entirely organic was because it was also the year EVERYONE was labeling their product as organic (not just natural) when in fact it was only a marketing ploy. I knew this because I would end up with sores on my body or breakouts in my mouth either immediately or within the 24 hours of consuming the food. I would go back to the restaurants or suppliers and tell them about what happened and they would finally admit that they were organic "where they can be". Funny enough some consumers were not so amused and several of these companies are now in multimillion dollar lawsuits for false advertising.

Gusto Organic's restaurant owner in NYC explained to me that Organic is the new emperor's clothes. What these restaurants do is buy a few things that are organic and then supplement the rest of their stock with industrial foods hoping the consumer doesn't know any different. How deceptive and depressing!

I'm an extreme example of how I react to my food, but it worried me that I was becoming even more sensitive to my food so I stopped and picked up 40 lbs of the weight I had lost. You can read more about my journey on Food Inc Avenue.

Now a game-changing product has arrived. Last September a spectrometer, called TellSpec came up on my radar with Indiegogo, a fundraising site. A spectrometer, or rather spectroscope is a device that labs use to identify materials.

According to the creators of TellSpec their product is a three-part system which includes: (1) a spectrometer scanner (2) an algorithm that exists in the cloud; and (3) an easy-to-understand interface on your smart phone. Just aim the scanner at the food and press the button until it beeps. You can scan directly or through plastic or glass. TellSpec analyzes the findings using the algorithm and sends a report to your phone telling you the allergens, chemicals, nutrients, calories, and ingredients in the food. TellSpec is a fast, simple, and easy-to-use way to learn what's in your food.

I had been in contact with TellSpec shortly after their campaign launch on Indiegogo to try to include them for an upcoming TV pilot, but somewhere the ball was dropped. I'm sure they are just overwhelmed with the media attention they recently have been getting.

In the end my only concern is what the regulatory bodies will do about this device. TellSpec is in Canada. The food lobbyists in our country have spent a lot of money to make sure we don't know or even label certain things in our food. GRAS or Generally regarded as safe to me is all relative.

I doubt the real question will be about what is in our food. I think the real question is how long will TellSpec stay available to the mass market? Perhaps they should just call themselves a calorie counting machine in the meantime?

The other week I had a chance to attend a beautypress brand spotlight event. It's like a micro tradeshow where brands really get a chance to tell their story. I ran across several brands we are now in the process of testing, but one product that immediately caught my attention was the Befine Rough Spot Lemon Balm.

First of all the packaging is ultra fun. It's a lemon container about the same size and texture as a real lemon. Inside the container is shea butter, avocado oil and lemon. Lemon is super effective at brightening the skin. Many of my customers use lemons to help calm their acne or brighten their skin.

It's not always convenient to just slice open a lemon on the spot, which is why we love this product.....at a price that won't rob the bank.

From the manufacturer:

For Elbows & Feet
With Shea Butter & Avocado
Natural
Paraben Free
Vegetarian Proteins
Clinically tested
Proven to be safe and effective for all skin types.
No animal testing

Rough Spot Lemon Balm is filled with healing Shea Butter to soften rough patches and avocado oil to hydrate and smooth. Skin feels softer with every use.

INGREDIENTS:
Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, hydrogenated vegetable oil, prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, persea gratissima (avocado) oil, ozokerite, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, tocopherol Acetate (vitamin E), cyclomethicone, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil.

For years now I have been testing all kinds of nail products. Aside from nail stickers, manicures never last me more than two or three days. The problem with the stickers is that they can cause my nail to eventually peel over time even if I use a base coat with them. While I still recommend the stickers as a quick fix I have finally found my new nail love, GELISH!

According to Nail Harmony's site "The gels come in an array of colors, apply like polish, with twist cap and applicator, but are cured in a LED lamp in 30 seconds or in two minutes in traditional UV lamps, just like gels. Gelish stays on nails for three weeks with no chipping or peeling, and soak completely off in only 15 minutes."

Gelish was brought to my attention by a PR agency called Red PR. They know that I don't time to waste, which is why I was willing to come in for a demonstration (as seen on instagram above). The nails turned out lovely and I constantly received compliments wherever I'd go.

I was nervous about what my nail would look like when the gel came off, but just as promised the Gelish did not damage my nail. Just to give it a second try I went to Fix in NYC to get the manicure removed and reapplied. The manicure was just as beautiful as the first one. It also endured painting furniture and window molding.

I've tried Gel Manicures by all of the other companies so why do I LOVE Gelish more?

1. It's not thick.
Many of the other gel companies out there make your mani look like an acryclic job versus a nice paint job. Thick nails might be your esthetic, but not mine.

2. They have over 128 colors!!!
The other brands leave a lot to be desired in the color and finish department. Not enough colors or textures, which is a major reason I never got hooked into doing gel manicures after they were first introduced.

3. Curing time is only 30 seconds each step.
This is a BIG reason for me to use Gelish. Other companies can take 90+ seconds to cure between steps. Gelish cuts that time down significantly with sacrificing duration or quality.

4. My nails are in great shape after the treatment.
After my first gel treatment with other companies my nails were softer and in bad shape. There was no way I would be able to maintain the gel manicure lifestyle. I could never figure out if it was because of the actual gel or the removal process.

5. The gel really does crumble off.
The gel really did lift from the nail without effort. I like that my nails were even in better shape than before. In the past other gel procedures took forever to release from the nail....if at all.

6. Can be done at home.
Now that I've learned how to do my own expert Gelish manicure I feel like I can do my own at home proficiently. This is much more convenient and cost effective in the end if I plan on doing it for a while.

I think one of the greatest inventions for nail dressing/manicures has been the Nail Stickers! They're ideal for whether you just want awesomely designed nails or have a high action lifestyle. Who really has time to polish their nails these days anyway?

Polish really lasts only a couple of days for me and Shellac is just not time effective for my lifestyle. There's a rumor that the UV lights used to cure the polish can also age your hands.

Nail stickers are also safe and thus perfect for pregnant women who are trying to avoid chemicals. There's no fumes, no mess, no wasted time and it saves money if you compare it to professional manicures. If you find the righ brand they're just awesome.

There is a brand of nail stickers I have sported since their inception called KISS available on Amazon or Walgreens (and probably some other stores). It took me a while to find the perfect brand that performs. I was excited when I found the one from Sally Hansen, but they only stay on me for a few days and scratch and peel to death. The ones at Sephora are okay, but they still don't hold a candle to the ones by KISS. It's a thicker sticker so it really gives me a flawless manicure for at least a couple of weeks until it grows out.

What I really like about them is all of the compliments I get from men. Men may tend to like natural makeup when it comes to faces, but they sure do like fun, manicured nails!

I just make sure I add a base coat or nail hardener to my nails first to create the ultimate adhesion and more importantly protect my nails.

If I get enough requests I'll do a video about this. I have tricks to cut your manicure time down to about 5 minutes!

While accidentally finding my lip color of the season at the drugstore, (not sephora or barney's!) I stumbled upon Scunci brand's no slip grip pony tail holders while perusing the hair isle. It had been a while since I had gone shopping like a normal consumer. I was a little skeptical when I saw the Scunci No Slip Grip product. Hair bands now either quickly lose their stretch after a short period of time or they have that metal piece that causes breakage and ultimately causes damage to the hair. I thought the jelly material was either going to snap in half when I went to put in my pony tail or it would snag my hair and pull it out when I took the band out. It did neither!

Can I say the Scunci No Slip elastic hair band is what I have been looking for literally over ten years???? It's a stretchy, jelly band that holds up my pony tail without allowing my hair to slip, split, or break. The days of falling pony tails are over!!!!! If I had these when I ran track when I was younger perhaps I would have come in first in the high jump at state finals instead of 6th!

Thank you Scunci for ending my 2012 on a high note!

If you haven't tried the YSL Glossy Stains carried at YSL and Sephora then you're really been missing out on one of the better current inventions in lip color. It has a stain, a gloss, and lip color all in one.

The other day I had to go to Walmart as per a request by a customer who was looking for anti-aging products on a budget and I discovered the L'Oreal Shine Caresse Glosses that have just launched. The packaging was so cute I couldn't resist trying it.

I bought the 184 Rose On and On and all I can say is I've found my new lipcolor/product of the season. It's great to use for dry lips, it has nice color, the shine lasts for hours and it even makes my lips look a little plumper. As I age I can use all the 'natural' looking help I can get. Once the shine is gone it still leaves behind a nice stain. So far the formula has not ripped up my lips. It's a little tacky, but they have to do that to make the gloss more long-lasting.

So don't walk, but run to the drugstore to snag one of these formulas. If you're short on time I've included a link to the Amazon site that carries the YSL version, but the L'oreal is not yet sold on Amazon.

Enjoy!
Imagine if your plastic bottles and beauty packaging could be turned back into diesel? Perhaps you didn't even know that your plastic and even ingredients in your face creams were made with gas!
This is not a conspiracy or science fiction folks. The technology is here. Check out this blog on how one Japanese man was able to turn plastic back into gas at http://www.e-n-ergy.blogspot.com/beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-12929751463380745662011-10-26T22:52:00.000-04:002011-10-26T22:52:25.960-04:00ALMAY MASCARA REVIEW

I've grown to loathe mascara. Most mascaras out there irritate my eyes. Other popular formulas make my lashes brittle. Some even cause major lash fallout for me for a multitude of reasons. For $7.50 I thought I would give Almay's new formula GET UP AND GROW in the non-waterproof formula (blackest black) a whirl.

I can't say enough great things about this mascara. From the minute I put it on it made my wimpy lashes buxom. Even the janitor at my office mentioned he noticed something different after I had debuted the mascara. He said 'you look younger for some reason today'. Others noticed as well. So volume: check.

Then I noticed that if I left the formula on overnight (because I was too lazy to take it off) it was really easy to reapply right over what I already had on without clumping. How many mascaras can you say that about????? In fact I feel like the more layers you work with the greater the impact you get without the clumps. Length plus volume: check.

After a week's use I started to notice my lashes grow. Why? This is easily explained. The formula is not drying, but nourishing to the lashes. The lashes remain soft throughout use whereas the other formulas on the market are quite drying and make my lashes blunt from breakage over time.

This formula also does not irritate me. This is a huge plus.

I could see a couple of cons with this formula. If you have oily skin this formula might give you a raccoon eye at the end of the day like some of the old mascaras in the 80's did. I don't get it because I have dryer skin, but the formula is so emollient I could see it causing a problem.

The second thing I noticed while using it on some models at a photoshoot the other day is that if you have very straight lashes the formula may not hold your curl as well. It just means you might have to maneuver your curler a little bit more. Not a deal breaker for me when you consider all of the other advantages.

Overall I have not been this thrilled about a mascara in a very long time. Look back at the posts and see.

Let me know what you think!

p.s. I think I'll try the waterproof next. Something tells me the non-waterproof is still going to be the best formula for me though.beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-20490929134277717812011-04-17T01:21:00.007-04:002011-04-17T02:42:08.039-04:00TESTING. The reason is solely because Beauty 212 is reserved for products that catch our eye. These products are high performers or products we think you should really know about. Believe it or not there's about 4 in the final phases of testing that we really love!

In the past we have also learned a valuable lesson on behalf of the consumer: wait to post until you see the long-term results. If we don't wait the companies are the ones who benefit from these postings leaving the consumer still struggling in the vast beauty wastelands. All we did was increase the product's SEO (search engine optimization). It's only happened a couple of times, but that is two times too many for us.

It takes a lot of hard work and research to do what we do. We have over 700 human testing lab rats at any given time. If a majority likes a product and benefits from the product then you're going to know about it.

We also have one of the most advanced pieces of imaging equipment on the market that measures 3mm below the skin. We can measure collagen, check out sun damage, and see if there's any improvement in blood flow. Nope.

This stylish bag represents so much more. This Eco Tools bag that debuted last week at a press breakfast I attended signifies something that is key to every consumer (and what every company should strive for): affordable eco consumption. Eco Tools believes "why sell a product to reduce the carbon footprint if no one is going to be able to afford it anyway"?

Purchasing power means everything, but if you can't purchase a product that supports a cause you are passionate about (whether it's Chantecaille's marine missions or a Coach bag for Cancer) then what's the point?

Eco-Tools is making affordability without compromise their mission with this beautiful well-built bag that retails at $14.99 (avail Target, Walmart, and other major retailers). It comes at a hefty price tag too. The system averages about $2,000 a month.

Never did we dream that a cream or any combination of creams would be able to topically affect the skin. The cream uses stem cell media in combination with liposomes (delivery system). The two materials reside in separate chambers until the serum is pumped through by the user. It also comes with an ionizer to help increase the product's absorption.

It's genius!!!

In our tester her collagen had increased by 20% in only two weeks!!! The kit is supposed to be a 30 day supply, but it seems as though it could stretch to about a month and a half.

Take the kit to your esthetician or doctor and the kit transforms into a treatment when you combine it with laser and other modalities.

Stay tuned here for the 4 week pro lab images so you can see what happened to sun damage, blood flow, etc.

Another big star for the Koreans!

Tweetbeautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-86583961201252753802010-07-24T14:17:00.004-04:002010-07-24T14:41:49.511-04:00SMART GLOW<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 82px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Xl-IFys-qCs/TEswMGlLxjI/AAAAAAAAA90/FpbFbQ35Qow/s400/future1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497540754618959410" />

Ah gone are the days of baby oil and iodine. Boy did I love to tan. But now we've left one extreme for another. We're in a pasty era of beauty now that is getting us sick in so many ways. Once again the public seems to be misguided about the sun and products we are recommended to wear. Because of this misdirection our country has become depleted of Vitamin D. One of the major things Vitamin D does for us is help protect our immune system. That's why when people with acne go into the sun they start to clear up because their body is able to fight off the bacteria that is invading their bodies.

There is a unique line of products that help us work with the sun and absorb the Vitamin D we really need. It's a line that works from the inside out and even helps to produce a richer, safer tan. The brand is called Oxelio. They had started to invade the tradeshow circuit a couple of years ago, but then my friend Mary Winkenwerder suggested I really give it a whirl.

The line is actually quite brilliant. The gel topically neutralizes the sun with antioxidants leaving less of a risk of age spots or skin cancer.

Internally the capsules add a healthy dose of beta carotene, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and minerals. Even if you don't go into the sun this is a great supplement to have in your beauty arsenal.

For a person such as myself that works in the office 24/7 the capsules took a few weeks to see anything. What it did for me is take some of the blue out of my skin and make me look a little less pasty. Now I really feel the need to go on a vacation somewhere and get a real tan! At least I know I now have the right tools to do it safely!beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-83901107049070576272010-05-29T11:53:00.006-04:002010-05-29T12:16:57.089-04:00SHELLACED<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Xl-IFys-qCs/TAE49MoRRZI/AAAAAAAAA8o/IDdvuUklmAQ/s400/4day+manicure.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5476721245872539026" />

So these are my nails 5 days after a manicure I had to get for a beauty segment for NBC. To be honest with you the manicure didn't even last a day for me.

I am the prime candidate for the new Shellac from CND. It's a polish that's supposed to last flawlessly for 14 days. It's a pro service so Jin Soon Salon and Escape Spa are the only pros who do this right now. On my feet I am currently testing the OPI gel polish. So far that's not too bad, but my feet don't take the wear and tear that my hands do.

If this product performs the way the company touts then I will give you more info. In the meantime I'm going to get this horrible polish off!!!!

Let the testing begin!beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-8458491057552418982010-04-24T00:07:00.005-04:002010-04-24T00:22:10.594-04:00GET GLOWING!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Xl-IFys-qCs/S9JxhrC47FI/AAAAAAAAA7c/bn3mUJau5kA/s400/120745_fpx.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5463554121258298450" />
Almost every day or at least every other day I get emails about acne problems! It's always refreshing to get a question about makeup from time to time.
I actually had an old friend email me today and ask me:

"I'm going to be in a wedding next month and I am planning to do my own makeup, normally I wear next to nothing, eye liner, mascara, & lip gloss. Any suggestions on how to spiffy up my look keeping it natural, without looking too overdone?"

It's really great to play around with makeup. The last thing you really want to do is try something because it's in style! You want to feel comfortable at special events and it's really about making yourself look as good as possible! The runway looks are for inspiration and to follow if you have the right look and attitude for it.

In this particular case I felt that my friend really needed to make a statement without being obvious. I used to love Benefit's High Beam liquid shimmer tapped onto the top of the cheekbone and into the lid and browbone area. It gives the face a bit of highlight, dewiness, and glow without looking like you tried too hard. The look can also be quite youthful.

High Beam has been out for a while so I wasn't sure if Benefit still carried it, but I'm glad to see an old goodie is still out there! This color by the way is good for light to medium skin tones. You can find fantastic highlighter sticks by NARS for medium to dark skin tones to complete your look as well!

So don't wait, Get Glowing!beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-5007715374067429652010-03-29T16:19:00.007-04:002010-03-31T21:49:21.948-04:00LOSE THE LUGGAGE!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 250px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Xl-IFys-qCs/S7GHdbUQsOI/AAAAAAAAA50/qebgi96U7Ok/s400/clq_71JL_250.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454289563341074658" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 175px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Xl-IFys-qCs/S7FVbPK5s0I/AAAAAAAAA5o/s9pNGJb557g/s400/eyeserum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454234550139466562" />
I'm beginning to think that there must be a spy camera in my office. Every time I have a beauty issue Clinique sends me over a product to test. It's always EXACTLY what I need at that very moment! Might I remind you that I do not get paid for testing and talking about these products!!!

So this morning I woke up with some pretty puffy eyes.(I was so glad I didn't have a client first thing in the morning to worry about scaring). The minute I walked into my office the postman handed me off a package from Clinique. It contained the new All About Eyes Serum. I decided to take a before and after photo to see the product work in action.

I rolled the gentle roller ball both below and above my eyes and into my eyebrows. Not only did depuff my eyes, but it lifted them as well. Within minutes my eyes felt more open and refreshed. I especially liked that it didn't irritate my eyes.

Oh, just in case you couldn't tell the above picture is the before and the one below is the after. Notice how my upper lids are not hanging over my lower lids in the after picture. Eyes are definitely much wider as well!

This might become my new beauty essential!beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-292515757220932183.post-24807240127095628202010-02-09T00:53:00.003-05:002010-02-09T01:11:55.034-05:00HIGHLIGHT YOUR DAY<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 250px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Xl-IFys-qCs/S3D4rLeQDmI/AAAAAAAAA1w/RMtLVFtMWtc/s400/clq_71FJ_250.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436118170933923426" />
Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see a product make a difference in someone's life. My friend Ameena Meer is a currently a cancer fighter. She has lost all of her hair, most of her lashes, and a big portion of her brows from her chemotherapy treatments.
When Clinique sent me the New Instant Lift For Brows I thought who better to test it out on than Ameena!

Ameena loved the brow pencil and highlighter combo. The pencil wasn't intimidating for her to use. The brow color didn't go on like a pencil either. It went on more like a shadow which gives a very natural look and it seemed to have staying power so you don't have to go reapplying it every hour or worry about sweating.

The highlighter is an added bonus that opens up the eyes. The formula is very smooth, but what I REALLY like about the highlighter is that it can double as a cheek highlighter which can give Ameena more of a youthful, glowing look instead of a sunken, tired look.

This pencil is definitely going to become a staple in my kit especially now that the Models Prefer pencil is so hard to purchase!

You can follow Ameena's brave journey at http://amazonsofnyc.blogspot.com/beautyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14856997116761808035noreply@blogger.com0
